H.O. Smith Botanic Gardens in the Arboretum at Penn State
MTR developed the master plan and phase one design for the 56-acre H.O. Smith Botanic Gardens, a gateway to the larger 395-acre Arboretum at Penn State. Constructed on a site formerly used for football parking, the Gardens are now a place of beauty where students and community members can go for renewal, celebration, and knowledge. The first phase of development includes parking, a LEED-Silver event pavilion (Overland Partners - architect), an event lawn, walled gardens, environmental art, and demonstration gardens. Event spaces throughout the Gardens maximize opportunities for generating revenue and to provide new venues for University gatherings. The project manages stormwater on site and uses local and salvaged materials.
